Chronic Condition: Complex pelvic and musculoskeletal pain disorders, infertility and adrenal insufficiency
I’ve been battling multiple chronic illnesses since I was a teenager. Others had difficulty understanding, because I look healthy, but they couldn’t see the pain I was suffering from, or the other symptoms that accompanied my illnesses. After leaving doctor’s appointments with conflicting information, I learned that I needed to be my own advocate. My illnesses caused me to medically withdraw from my first college, as well as defer graduate school. At times I have felt so much pressure and guilt, both internally and externally to do better and work harder. But you can’t give what you don’t have. You need to take care of yourself first. With time, I was able finish my degree and then obtain my Masters in Social Work. I’m a big advocate for self-care and working to minimize the stigma associated with chronic illness. I chose to share my story through social media to raise awareness and advocate for better care for the future generations.
