I’ve been disabled for essentially my entire life. Ever since I could talk, I would complain about my stomach hurting, and I started dealing with dislocations, subluxations, and sprains frequently by age 11. Growing up, I felt left out and discouraged by my constant health issues that just got worse year by year. Now in my late 20s, my conditions have become so severe that I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user and take 20+ daily medications and 10+ as-needed medications. I deal with a lot of grief daily - grief from not being able to finish my degree and pursue my dream career; dance, hike, or act in plays like I used to. All I can do is just live one day at a time.

I advocate because I recognize how lonely and isolating it can be dealing with chronic illness and disabilities. People around you might not grasp what it’s like to be in pain all the time, or feel like your body is working against you. I think it’s important for people who experience chronic conditions to know that they’re not alone and that there are people out there who are supporting them and who understand. We’re in this together. I believe in you.
