Molly Schlom (She/Her/Hers)
State: Illinois
Chronic Condition: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos in 2014 after a roller derby injury wouldn't heal and I saw a rheumatologist for aggravating chronic pain. Since then I've had an organ prolapse, uterine rupture, and total hysterectomy.
I advocate because I struggled to get an accurate diagnosis, and then struggled to receive adequate care. My lack of receiving care lead to a neglected organ prolapse that resulted in a total hysterectomy in June of 2017. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. I want people to be able to ask for and receive the care and kindness they deserve without being scared. I was too scared to question my doctors and it resulted in becoming a hystersister at 28. Now I advocate on behalf of others so they can have a voice!
