Chronic Condition: Interstitial Cystitis

In 2016, I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (IC), also known as bladder pain syndrome. I was diagnosed at 24 years old; however, I have felt this pain since childhood. Interstitial cystitis is a chronic condition that consists of recurring pain, urinary urgency, and frequency. Throughout my life, I felt unheard and voiceless with multiple doctors. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties where I finally received answers. I immediately began looking for community and started my work in the health advocacy field.

My goal as an advocate is to educate and raise awareness. I want to shape future health policies, so every individual is represented and heard. It took over 10 years to be diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis and receive the help I needed. Chronic pain affects 50 million Americans and is misunderstood and underfunded. I desire to bring change by sharing my story. Learn more about my story here.
