Ashley Goodrich (She/Her)
State: Alaska
Chronic Conditions: Hypothyroidism, Hypertension
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2012. I had gained a ton of weight. I was fatigued all the time. It felt as if someone had hooked a vacuum up to me and sucked all of the energy out of my body. There were days that I couldn't get out of bed. I had sleep issues which led to chronic headaches. The doctors I was seeing at the time didn't give me the proper care or attention I needed and I found myself in a deep depression. Illness and being sick all the time became a part of my daily life. It wasn't until I met a nurse practitioner that I started getting the help and care I needed. After that, I started my work in the health advocacy field.
My mission is to change the lives of people who suffer from chronic illness. I stand here today because someone advocated for me, and I now live a life paying that forward. My goal as an advocate is to educate, raise awareness and help patients navigate the challenges of chronic illness.
I am a nursing student, pageant queen, and wellness coach. As the current Mrs. Alaska America 2022, I use my platform to advocate for patients who struggle with chronic illness and who aren't getting the proper medical care.
