I started my chronic illness journey as a senior in high school but it wasn't until I was 30 that my ulcerative colitis took a front seat in my life. I woke up one day thinking I had food poisoning only to find out that I need an ostomy to save my life. It's been quite the journey since then and I've learned not only how to cope with the symptoms and complications but also how to speak up for myself and advocate for change in our healthcare system. I advocate so that future patients will have the access to healthcare that they need so that they can solely focus on their health and recovery instead of all of the issues plaguing our healthcare system today.
