7.25.16 The Idaho Department of Insurance is currently considering a new rule for Medigap plans sold in the state and will hold a public hearing on the matter today. The new rule would require that insurance carriers offer Medigap coverage to all individuals who are eligible for Medicare, regardless of age. Currently, a number of plans require that individuals be 65 or older to get Medigap coverage, even if an applicant is already eligible for Medicare. This rule change would be great news for kidney patients, who are eligible for Medicare Part B at any age, and we are pleased to see this coverage being offered. If you are also pleased with this proposed change, consider attending the department’s public hearing, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 25, at the agency’s office at 700 W. State St. in Idaho. You can also submit written comments through Wednesday to tom.donovan@doi.idaho.gov. To learn more about the department's rulemaking activities, please click here.
