12.6.15 Chronic Disease CoaltionPortland, Oregon – The Chronic Disease Coalition is sending a public “thank you” message to legislators and the Oregon Insurance Division for protecting some of the state’s most vulnerable residents: those suffering from kidney failure. The coalition will run “thank you” ads in multiple Oregon media outlets in December following a decision that halted an attempt by several major health-care insurers to limit options for patients needing kidney dialysis. The Chronic Disease Coalition is an advocacy organization that supports patients’ access to appropriate treatments, opposes discrimination toward any patient based on disease and encourages the allocation of federal resources toward research and cures for chronic diseases, including diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, ALS and others. Concern remains about whether insurance carriers will again propose discriminatory health plans – whether for those suffering from kidney failure or for patients with other chronic diseases in Oregon. The Chronic Disease Coalition will continue to educate and engage stakeholders and all Oregonians interested in protecting patients’ rights.
