The American Association of Kidney Patients will host the 43rd Annual National Patient Meeting next month in Tampa, Florida. From September 8 to 10, kidney patients and caretakers from all over the country will convene at the Vinoy Renaissance Resort and Golf Club to listen to kidney experts, engage with fellow patients and speak with different advocacy organizations. The Chronic Disease Coalition will attend this year’s conference, which will include our own CDC table where patients and caretakers can learn about our mission and how to become an advocate.
Since 1969, the AAKP has sought to improve the lives of kidney patients through education, advocacy, patient engagement and the fostering of patient communities. The organization continues to play a critical role in giving a much-needed voice to kidney patients and their caretakers.
The AAKP is proud to host the “largest kidney patient education and advocacy meeting held in the United States.” The three-day-long meeting will focus on educating kidney patients and caretakers on becoming effective advocates for themselves and others. Workshops, discussions and social events led by kidney experts will educate patients on their disease, health care options and how to speak knowledgably about their disease when engaging and influencing policy makers.
Breakout sessions will be held throughout the day and patients will have a variety of topics to choose from, including: improving kidney care and treatment options, staying active with kidney disease, understanding living donation options and the importance of vaccinations in kidney disease.
AAKP has partnered with DaVita, Inc. and Fresenius to provide dialysis care for patients needing the service. Transportation to and from the clinics will also be provided.
